Abstract
Our project about using wave energy:
- Wells turbine is a low-pressure air turbine that rotates continuously in one direction independent of the direction of the air flow. Its blades feature a symmetrical airfoil with its plane of symmetry in the plane of rotation and perpendicular to the air stream. It was developed for use in Oscillating Water Column wave power plants, in which a rising and falling water surface moving in an air compression chamber produces an oscillating air current. The use of this bi-directional turbine avoids the need to rectify the air stream by delicate and expensive check valve
- Wells turbineconsists of two main parts; housing and turbine blade.
- In our project, we will consider housing design as a cone shape. When waves enter to the column, the water inside it will move upward, so the air will compress to the turbine. As air moves through the turbine, it rotates and the generator connected to it will generate the electricity. This arrangement of oscillating can exploit the maximum wave energy. The only requirement is good physical strength for the inter-connection between the oscillating water columns and columns itself.
- The housing will be two cones and between them the wells turbine. The inside water cone is an ellipse at its bottom and a circle at its top near the turbine. The ellipse largest diameter facing the waves is 29 cm (water channel width) and its smallest diameter will be half of wave length. The circle at top of cone the diameter will be equal the diameter of wells turbine. Between the cone and the bottom of wave channel, we will make an opining to allow wave entering to housing.
