Abstract

Hybrid wind-wave energy convertors is the combination between wind turbine (HAWT) and  wave convertor (wave star). We generate electricity from wind and wave renewable energy as:

Wind:

Wind turbine technology has demonstrated the potential for contributing to the energy needs. If the sites with acceptable wind characteristics were fully utilized, they could contribute up to about 10 present of the nation’s electrical energy needs. The limitation is based on utility system stability issues rather than available site locations. As in all energy investment decisions, the ultimate penetration level will be driven by the cost of energy that is produced. In turn, this is decided by the initial cost of the wind energy plant and the annual cost for maintenance and operation.

Wave:

Covering over 70% of the Earth’s surface, the oceans represent an enormous source of renewable energy. This recognition of the ocean as an energy resource has been proposed as early as the late 18th century. Despite its promise, however, the ocean energy technology’s development has staggered until the 1960s due to its high costs of construction, deployment and maintenance. Only recently, when the interest in renewable energy was stimulated during the oil shortage crisis in 1973, was the ocean energy reconsidered as an alternative energy resource. The research and development of the ocean energy technology started in the 1990’s, and it is still in the early development stage.
